Learning at Mooroopna Primary School

At Mooroopna Primary School, we believe in developing the whole child — academically, socially, emotionally, and creatively.
Our broad curriculum and enrichment programs give every student opportunities to learn, lead, and thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

🎨 Specialist & Enrichment Programs

We provide a range of specialist and extension programs designed to engage every learner.

Arts & Culture

  • Visual Arts, Music & Choir – Students explore creativity through art and music, performing at school concerts and community events such as Mooroopna Carols by Candlelight.

  • Band (Years 5–6) – Senior students have the opportunity to participate in the school band, developing skills in brass, woodwind, and percussion. Band students build musical technique, teamwork, and confidence through regular rehearsals and performances at school and community events.

Literacy & Learning Support

  • Early Years Literacy Program – Intensive support for students in Prep to Grade 4 to build strong reading and writing foundations.

  • Buddies Program – Senior students mentor younger students, helping build confidence and belonging.

  • Student of the Week – Celebrating effort, achievement, and positive behaviour.

Health, Sport & Wellbeing

  • Swimming Program (Prep–6) – Annual swimming lessons and swimming sports in Term 1.

  • Athletics, Cross Country & Interschool Sports – Encouraging participation, teamwork, and resilience.

  • Active After School – Fun after-school sports and physical activities.

  • SunSmart Policy – Fully implemented from September to April to promote safe sun habits.

Leadership, Groups & Citizenship

  • Student Leadership Team & House Captains – Students lead events, fundraisers, and represent the student voice.

  • Boys Group & Girls Group – Small-group programs focusing on teamwork, wellbeing, and personal growth in a supportive setting.

  • Construction Group – Hands-on projects where students build teamwork, problem-solving and practical skills.

  • Mooroopna Cares – No Bullying – A community-based initiative promoting kindness, inclusion, and respect.

Community & Care Programs

  • Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) – Before School, After School, and Holiday Care available for families.

  • Breakfast Club – Open every morning to ensure every student starts the day ready to learn.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

  • Excursions – Themed experiences that connect classroom learning with the real world.

  • Camps (Years 5–6) – Outdoor adventures that build independence, friendship, and confidence.

  • Industry Tours (Year 6) – Students participate in visits to local businesses such as Foott Waste, GOTAFE, GV Water, and Gouge, in conjunction with the Lighthouse Foundation. These experiences help students connect learning to real-world pathways, explore future careers, and build an understanding of their local community.
