Programs at Mooroopna Primary School

At Mooroopna Primary School, we offer a range of programs designed to support learning, wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement. Our programs help students build skills, confidence, and positive relationships while providing opportunities to learn in meaningful and hands-on ways.

Social & Emotional Learning Programs

Boys Group / Girls Group

Our Boys and Girls groups provide a safe and supportive space for students to develop important social and emotional skills.

These groups focus on:

  • Emotional regulation

  • Learning positive social skills

  • Building resilience and confidence

Sessions support students to better understand their emotions, manage challenges, and build positive relationships with others.

Clubs & Lunchtime Programs

Our clubs program runs during first and second break, providing students with engaging alternatives to outdoor play and opportunities to explore interests, connect with others, and relax. These operate on a rotating basis and may not necessarily run all year.

These clubs help students build friendships, develop skills, and enjoy a balanced school day.

Health, Wellbeing & Community Support

Breakfast Club

Our Breakfast Club supports student wellbeing by ensuring children start the day nourished, settled, and ready to learn.

Breakfast Club:

  • Provides a healthy breakfast in a welcoming environment

  • Supports students who may need extra assistance in the morning

  • Builds routine, connection, and a positive start to the school day

This program plays an important role in supporting engagement and wellbeing across the school.

Learning Support & Intervention

Literacy & Numeracy Intervention

We provide targeted literacy and numeracy intervention programs to support students who may be experiencing difficulty in these areas.

These programs:

  • Support students in small groups

  • Focus on building core skills and confidence

  • Complement classroom learning

Hands-On & Practical Learning

Construction Group

The Construction Group gives students the opportunity to learn through hands-on projects while developing problem-solving and thinking skills.

Students learn to:

  • Use tools safely and responsibly

  • Plan and build practical projects

  • Develop analytical and logical thinking skills

This program supports creativity, teamwork, and confidence through practical learning experiences.

Creative & Performing Arts

Choir

Our Choir program provides students with the opportunity to develop their musical skills, confidence, and teamwork through singing.

Students in Choir:

  • Learn vocal skills and musical techniques

  • Build confidence performing as part of a group

  • Develop teamwork and listening skills

Choir supports creativity and self-expression and may include performances at school and community events.

State School Spectacular (Grade 5–6)

The State School Spectacular program gives Grade 5 and 6 students the chance to participate in a large-scale, professional performance celebrating music, dance, and theatre.

Students in this program:

  • Learn performance skills in singing, dancing, and stagecraft

  • Build confidence performing in a large ensemble

  • Develop teamwork, collaboration, and stage presence

Participation in the State School Spectacular allows students to showcase their creativity and dedication on a professional stage, inspiring pride, resilience, and a love of the performing arts.

Health, Sustainability & Community Programs

OzHarvest FEAST Program (Grade 5-6)

Mooroopna Primary School participates in the OzHarvest FEAST (Food Education and Sustainability Training) Program, a curriculum-aligned initiative that combines food education, sustainability, and wellbeing.

Through FEAST, students:

  • Learn about healthy eating using fresh, nutritious ingredients

  • Prepare and cook simple, affordable recipes

  • Develop skills such as collaboration, communication, and resilience

  • Learn about sustainability and reducing food waste

The program aligns with the Australian Curriculum and promotes positive behaviours such as empathy, generosity, and sharing. FEAST also encourages students to think about how they can create positive change at school, at home, and in their community.

High Ability Intervention

Our High Ability Intervention program is designed to further extend students who demonstrate strong academic skills.

This program:

  • Provides additional challenge and enrichment

  • Encourages deeper thinking and problem solving

  • Supports students to reach their full potential
