Wellbeing
Wellbeing at Mooroopna Primary School
At Mooroopna Primary School, student wellbeing is central to everything we do. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, supported, and connected. Our whole-school approach to wellbeing focuses on building positive relationships, developing social and emotional skills, and providing timely support so every student can thrive.
We work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and external professionals to promote positive wellbeing outcomes and create a caring, inclusive school environment.
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
Mooroopna Primary School follows the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework to promote positive behaviour and wellbeing across the school.
Our school values are:
Bee Kind • Bee a Learner • Bee Your Best
These values underpin all aspects of school life and are explicitly taught and reinforced through targeted SWPBS lessons at every year level. SWPBS provides clear, consistent expectations and a shared language for behaviour, helping students understand how to make positive choices and build respectful relationships.
Wellbeing Policies
Our wellbeing practices are guided by a strong policy framework that ensures student safety, inclusion, and engagement. These policies support a consistent, fair, and proactive approach to wellbeing and are regularly reviewed to meet the needs of our school community.
Key policies include:
Together, these policies promote a safe learning environment where all students are supported to attend school regularly, feel valued, and reach their full potential.
Wellbeing Programs
Mooroopna Primary offers a range of ongoing wellbeing programs designed to support students’ social, emotional, and personal development. Programs are responsive and targeted, with students selected based on specific areas of need or focus identified by staff and, where appropriate, student voice.
Programs typically run for approximately one term, with a clear wellbeing focus identified for each group. These include:
Breakfast Program
Break-time clubs
Construction group
Boys’ and girls’ wellbeing groups
Evidence-Based External Programs
In recent years, students have also participated in a range of external, evidence-based wellbeing programs delivered by specialist providers, including:
These programs support students to build resilience, confidence, positive relationships, and respectful behaviour both online and offline.
Specialist Wellbeing Support
To further support student wellbeing, Mooroopna Primary School has access to both a school psychologist and a play therapist on site. These professionals work with students through targeted individual or small-group support.
Referrals can be made internally by the school or initiated by parents, ensuring students receive timely and appropriate support when needed.
Pulse Wellbeing Check-In
Students in Years 3–6 participate in Pulse, a weekly wellbeing check-in survey that supports early identification of student wellbeing needs. Pulse provides students with a safe way to reflect on and share how they are feeling, while giving staff valuable insight into who is doing well and who may benefit from additional support.
This real-time information helps inform wellbeing planning, targeted support, and proactive responses by teachers and the wellbeing team.
Our Collaborative Approach
We take a collaborative approach to wellbeing, working closely with families, students, staff, and support services. Open communication and strong partnerships ensure wellbeing support is consistent, respectful, and responsive to individual needs.
Students and families are encouraged to raise concerns or seek support at any time.
